Department of Business Management
The Department of Business Management (DBM, earlier known as Department of Business Studies, DBS), CUK, is committed to advancing excellence in management education, research, and professional development. Established in 2010 with the objective of nurturing competent business leaders and entrepreneurs, the Department adopts a multidisciplinary approach to equip students with contemporary managerial knowledge, analytical capabilities, ethical values, and leadership competencies. The Department offers a two-year full time MBA Programme with specializations in Marketing, Finance, and Human Resource Management; a three-year BBA Programme; and a Ph.D. Programme in Business Management. In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Department has introduced a four-year Undergraduate Programme in BBA starting from the academic year 2025–26, incorporating multiple entry and exit options, skill-based learning, internships, research components, and interdisciplinary flexibility. The curricula of all programmes are designed to balance strong theoretical foundations with practical applications, ensuring responsiveness to evolving corporate, industrial, and societal needs. The Department periodically reviews and updates its syllabi to integrate emerging domains such as digital business, entrepreneurship, financial innovation, and sustainable management practices. With a strong emphasis on experiential learning, research orientation, and industry engagement, the Department fosters an academic ecosystem that encourages innovation, critical thinking, and socially responsible decision-making. Through continuous curriculum enrichment, industry interaction, and structured skill development initiatives, the Department strives to contribute to regional, national, and global development by producing ethically grounded and professionally competent graduates.
Department of Commerce
The Department of Commerce started in the academic year 2010-11 as a constituent department in the School of Business Studies. The department has well-experienced full-time faculty and invites experts from industry as well as academicians from reputed institutions on a need basis. M.Com, M.Com (Banking and Financial Technology) and Ph.D. programs are offered by the Department. Rigours efforts are being made to promote research, consultancy, training, and outreach activities. We are striving to promote applied research to address the challenges of the national as well as the regional. Organizing workshops, Capacity Building Programmes, Conferences and undertaking sponsored research projects has become a routine activity.

Department of Economic Studies and Planning (DESP) is a premier branch in the School of Business Studies established to impart quality education in economics and to promote higher research that seeks to provide policy solutions for economic problems faced by businesses, consumers and economies over space and time. DESP’s vision is to become a leading centre of economics learning in India and the world. It is committed to provide specialist training, skills and expertise to our students to become leaders of change for furthering the objectives of the social, market and governmental institutions they choose to serve. Its syllabus is innovatively embedded in accumulated knowledge base and emerging fields of study. Along with a rigorous teaching programme, it constantly strives to promote cutting-edge research and scholarship supervised by its eminent faculty. While keeping the global and national focus of its research activities, the department would actively address regional needs by encouraging research on regional development and industrialization, rural entrepreneurship, small and medium enterprises, agricultural advancement, etc.

Department of English and Foreign Languages
The Department of English and Foreign Languages is committed to fostering academic excellence through innovative teaching, research, and creative engagement in the fields of English literature and languages (English, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic). The Department strives to cultivate a dynamic community of learners, researchers, and teachers who actively participate in contemporary intellectual dialogues and encourage critical, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary approaches to knowledge. The Department enables students to understand the evolution of knowledge systems and the reconfiguration of subjects categorized under literature and languages across the temporal dimensions of the past, present, and future. Since its inception in 2009, the Department has been steadily growing and creating learning opportunities through innovative classroom activities, workshops, seminars, and invited lectures on a regular basis. The Film Club, Theater Club, and Literary Club provide additional learning experiences for students.
Department of Hindi
The Department of Hindi offers M.A program. Keeping in view the present challenges, both at the national and at the global levels, the Masters’ program is designed to give a more inclusive and expansive approach to Hindi literature and functional aspects of Hindi language. The program includes allied, supportive, elective and social orientation courses along with the core subjects.
Department of Kannada
The objective of the department includes undertaking original research in Kannada language, literature, culture and society incorporating innovative research approaches, and imparting training to students to enable them to make use the knowledge of the subject not only to make a career for them but also serve the society. The Department also strives to develop methods focusing on promotion of Kannada Studies at the national and international levels.
Department of Linguistics
India has the oldest and arguably, the richest tradition of linguistic study in the world. The rich multilingual situation of India provides both challenges and opportunities for a well-designed research and training program in Linguistics. The great history, mutual relationship between language families for thousands of years in India provides ample scope to research. The greater tradition of language studies of different languages in India too needs attention. Justification for a systematic study of language in India has not only intellectual, but also pragmatic one in terms of urgent regional, state, and national priorities. India faces many challenges in language education, both in mother tongue and second language teaching.

Department of Geography
The Department of Geography since the inception of the Central University of Karnataka has pledged to follow the mission of the University, i.e., making difference in the existing educational system and approaches. The department acknowledges the discipline of Geography as a complete science, the dissemination of which can bring a conspicuous difference in the social, economic, physical, environmental and political (including planning) scenario of the country and region. The Department of Geography endeavours to take the teaching of Geography with multi-disciplinary perspective along with substantial disciplinary depth.
Department of Geology
The Department of Geology has good facilities and laboratories to cater to the needs of practical course- work of M.Sc. students as well as for research. Geology is the study of the interacting systems of the solid Earth with atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere as they evolve through time. The courses offered at the Department focuses on the scientific study of the earth. Geologists discover, develop, and responsibly manage minerals, energy, and other earth resources. Geological knowledge enables to ensure a sustainable development of natural resources and the use of these resources responsibly.

Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics was established in 2012 as a constituent of the School of Physical Sciences. Mathematics is important for all the departments of CUK. The Department of Mathematics shares the vision of our University in striving for excellence in teaching and research. Currently the Department not only teaches various topics in Mathematics to undergraduate and postgraduate students of different engineering and science departments, but also runs its own UG, PG & PhD courses in Mathematics. The curriculum of UG and PG courses are designed in a unique way to nurture future industry professionals and scientists. The frontier areas of research of the department include Fluid Mechanics, Number Theory, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Numerical Analysis, Theory of Hydrodynamic Stability and Mathematical Theory of Control. The laboratories in the Department and the computer centre are equipped with modern facilities to provide a good work environment. The students are trained in several computer programming languages like C, C++, and FORTRAN. They also gain exposure in handling problems through mathematical software’s like MATLAB, Mathematica, Python, Scilab, Maple, R etc.
